How to install a transom saver

Fitting a motor support between the outboard and the trailer for towing.

Harborwright sells the part only — we don't install it. These are general steps; your boat and the maker's manual come first. If you're not sure, have a marine shop fit it.

Safety: Use it only with the boat on the trailer, never in the water, and take it off before launching. Not for non-tilt or non-trim motors.

Steps

  1. With the boat on the trailer, measure from the motor's lower unit to the trailer's rear crossmember or roller bracket to confirm the size you picked.
  2. Mount the trailer end: drill and bolt the trailer mounting bracket to the crossmember, or fix the end straight to a roller bracket, whichever suits your trailer.
  3. Set the head against the lower unit, adjust the length and lock it.
  4. Trim the motor down onto the saver until it's snug (don't force it), then wrap the rubber strap.
  5. Remove it before every launch.

Follow the maker's manual for your exact model first — they're linked with each part below.
