How to use a landing net

Extending a telescopic landing net and netting a fish head-first.

Harborwright sells the part only — we don't install it. These are general steps; your boat and the maker's manual come first. If you're not sure, have a marine shop fit it.

Steps

  1. Unfold the hoop and extend the telescopic handle to the length you need, locking each section.
  2. Get the net in the water ahead of time and keep it still — don't chase the fish.
  3. Lead the fish head-first over the hoop with the rod, then lift the net.
  4. Lift by the handle near the hoop rather than the tip, and stay within the net's rating.
  5. Rinse with fresh water, collapse it and fold the hoop to stow.

Follow the instructions that come in the box for your exact model first.
