How to fit a kayak seat

Strapping or bolting a replacement seat onto a sit-on-top or inflatable kayak.

Harborwright sells the part only — we don't install it. These are general steps; your boat and the maker's manual come first. If you're not sure, have a marine shop fit it.

Safety: Check every strap clip or screw before you launch, and always wear a life jacket.

Steps

  1. Check how your kayak takes a seat: built-in clips or pad eyes, a seat well, or nothing (then you add pad eyes).
  2. Set the seat in the seat well and adjust its position so your feet reach the foot pegs comfortably.
  3. Clip the straps to the pad eyes and pull them snug. If you're adding pad eyes, mark, drill and fasten them with the included screws, sealing each hole.
  4. For frame seats with brackets, bolt the brackets as the instructions show and tighten them evenly.
  5. Sit in it on shore and adjust the back straps or angle before you paddle out.

Follow the instructions that come in the box for your exact model first.
