How to use a kayak cart

Setting up a kayak or canoe cart, strapping the boat on and rolling it to the water.

Harborwright sells the part only — we don't install it. These are general steps; your boat and the maker's manual come first. If you're not sure, have a marine shop fit it.

Safety: Stay within the cart's rated load, and lift with your legs when you tip the boat onto the cart.

Steps

  1. Assemble the cart as the instructions in the box show and set the support width to suit your hull.
  2. Stand the boat on its stern (or tip it on its side), slide the cart under it about a third of the way from one end, and lower the hull onto the pads.
  3. Strap the boat to the cart with the included strap until it doesn't shift.
  4. Lift the other end by the handle and roll. On soft sand, keep the load balanced over the wheels.
  5. At the water, unstrap, slide the cart out, and fold or take it apart to stow it.

Follow the instructions that come in the box for your exact model first.
