How to install a dual battery isolator (VSR)

Wiring a voltage-sensitive relay between a starting and a house battery.

Harborwright sells the part only — we don't install it. These are general steps; your boat and the maker's manual come first. If you're not sure, have a marine shop fit it.

Safety: Disconnect both batteries before wiring and fuse each positive cable close to its battery — a battery-cable mistake can start a fire.

Steps

  1. Mount the isolator in a dry spot close to both batteries.
  2. Connect BATT1 to the positive of the main battery, the one the engine charges. VEVOR says the isolator won't work if the charging battery isn't on BATT1.
  3. Connect BATT2 to the auxiliary (house) battery positive.
  4. Connect the ground wire to negative.
  5. Size the cables and fuses as the VEVOR manual shows, then reconnect the batteries.
  6. Check the display shows both voltages. By default, Auto mode connects above 13.3 V and disconnects at 12.7 V.

Follow the maker's manual for your exact model first — it's linked with each part below.
